Maldives
The Maldives is a dream come true of paradise. Stretching to the horizon, sandy white beaches contrast with azure waters whose color changes with sunrise and sunset. We encountered stingrays, harmless sharks, and colorful fish.
We visited the Maldives in 2008, and it was our longest trip so far, as it took about 20 hours. We had a connecting flight in Qatar, and flying Qatar Airways was an amazing experience. They are a top-notch airline. You can have a selection of the latest movies (there was a TV in each headrest), large comfortable seats, a blanket, a toothbrush and toothpaste, and snacks included.
It’s quite an expensive trip, but we paid only about PLN 6,000 (we added our own money) because we won a voucher for a trip for PLN 10,000. We took part in the “Couples’ Magic” program. Yes, there used to be something like that on Puls TV. It was a program for young married couples with up to 5 years of experience, and the purpose of this program was to test your knowledge of your partners. Surprisingly, we won😉.
Where is Maldives located?
The Maldives is an archipelago and island state of the same name in the Indian Ocean. The archipelago includes more than 1,000 islands in 26 atolls. Most of them are unoccupied. The capital of the Maldives is Male, and it is also the largest island.
The highest point of the Maldives is only 2 meters above sea level. One day, the islands may cease to exist due to the constantly rising ocean level. In 2004 there was a tsunami that was caused by an underwater earthquake under the Indian Ocean. It was an earthquake with a magnitude of 9.1 on the Richter scale and contributed to the deaths of nearly 300,000 people.
We were on a tiny island that we could get around in 10 minutes. After a week, my husband was already a bit bored. We spent there 12 days. We met only one Polish couple.
