Tenerife
We went to Tenerife with my husband on our honeymoon in 2007. But how quickly time flies…we remember this trip with fondness. I was not supposed to write about the trips, which are in the „archive” tab, but it is impossible to blow this place over. I promise myself that I will go back there again.
The island is wonderful, and it is so far the most beautiful place I have visited. Even the paradise Maldives lose to it. Tenerife is very diverse and has a lot to offer us and on top of that the Teide volcano which you can climb. Most of the beaches are dark with volcanic sand, but we can also find a beach with golden sand that has been transported from the Sahara.
Where is Tenerife located?
The island is located 300 km from the African continent and 1,000 km from the Iberian Peninsula and Spain, so it is closer to Africa than Europe, but only in location. Tenerife is not large, as it is only 80 km long and 50 km wide. It is located in the middle of the Canary Islands, which also include: Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro.
Weather
Tenefife is located in a subtropical climate zone on the coast and a Mediterranean climate in the interior of the island. It is warm and sunny almost all year round, especially in the south, where there are as many as 300 sunny days. The weather is perfect for me. We spent 14 days in Tenerife in June and it was about 25 degrees.
Pico del Teide
Los Gigantes
Los Gigantes are huge cliffs on the west coast of Tenerife. Their height is more than 600 meters. We watched them on a catamaran cruise on the ocean and also managed to admire dolphins in the wild.
Masca
La Geomera
La Geomera is one of the smaller Canary Islands and the wildest. It is located at a distance of 35 km from Tenerife. We get there by ferry and spent the whole day. We explored the island by jeep and, visited a banana plantation, a beach where we admired the Pico del Teide volcano and the capital San Sebastian de la Gomera. This city is full of souvenirs of Christopher Columbus, as he spent time on the island before continuing his travels.
